Jera is the half-month rune, through 28 December. The half-month rune is set by the traditionally accepted runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks. Read right to left is Jera, followed by Mannaz as the intuitive stave. The intuitive stave brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week.

We’ve had a lot of reversals, lately, including Mannaz reversed last week. It’s a brilliant omen that it comes upright now, opening the opportunity for new awareness and tribe.
Jera, or “year,” is the rune of inventory, or “Hearth Accounting 101,” as I call it. Historically, the Northern Tradition was headed into the thick of winter, and it was necessary to know what provisions were at hand, how long they’d last, how many they would feed and warm, and what needed to be kept back to plan for the coming year. A very practical time, planning was essential, as was rationing.
Jera is the realization that we don’t have to do things alone. We can draw on past experience (wisdom), we can apply that knowledge to our present choices (orlog), which can impact how we move forward (wyrd). It is the point along the hero’s journey that we acquire sidekicks and allies to help us with that process.

Such is the creative potential at our fingertips this week. We have been under the duress of the winter runes. We now sit at an opportunity to create something of it.
