For the week of 15 April 2018
The practicality of soul flight.
Mannaz is the half-month stave through 29 April. Perthro reversed is the intuitive stave, and Gebo indicates the rune’s message to us. Read right to left is Mannaz, Perthro reversed, then Gebo.

The half-month rune is set by the runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks (a fortnight). The intuitive stave (meaning, I draw it blind) indicates the life force most available to us, which brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week. It suggests how we can handle these energies. The planetary stave (also a blind draw) indicates the state and needs of the planet, and where noted, of Nature, well beyond the earthly sphere.
If you’re curious about how I do the cast every week, catch a couple of my Instagram videos, which explain the intention behind The Weekly Rune, and what makes it different from other ways of casting.

Over the last couple of weeks, our time with Ehwaz was intense but sweet. Generally speaking, it’s been a clarifying yet rewarding time. Moving into the half-month of Mannaz this week brings a little more attention to events of the last few weeks, comfort be damned.
Mannaz is the social rune, which tweaks introverts like myself. The caveat of Mannaz that makes it a bit more palatable is we get to choose our involvement. Well, I should say, we *can* choose our involvement. If we don’t, it’s like to be foisted upon us, so exercise control where available.
Yes, Mannaz is the social, “check ‘yes’ if you like me,” survey. It’s also the point that we internalize if what we’re doing at a personal level is in step with the collective need, and the opportunity to adjust based on that feedback. We don’t have to scrap the whole thing to please others–that’s not what this is about. It’s about the ability to feed the dreams and needs of the self while addressing the needs of All. Specifically, it’s about realizing that those two things are never really separate. Taking the time to do Mannaz well is what makes the forthcoming Ingwaz debut on pointe. Use the time we have now to go through that process of checks and balances, update, and get ready.
Perthro reversed suggests we will by flying by the seat of our pants through that process, and that we’re in greater danger of not taking a grounded look at how this initiation is really progressing. Reversed, this rune indicates hope outweighing actual effort that’s been put in for the outcome. It’s prayer for something, without ever leaving the couch. Life force is scattered, with too much emphasis on what’s coming, rather than on the present.
Gebo as the voice of the runic spirit asserts that our effort put in now for finding support and input on our focus results in partnership. Meaning “gift,” this rune emphasizes the process of giving, as in sacrifice without expectation, and the understanding that balance in relationships must be maintained. We must give. We must receive. We must express gratitude not just for the ability to give or receive, but for the process, itself.
This week, seek feedback on the present need in earnest, and with the understanding that this focus must meet a collective need–not just a personal one. With those details in place, truly internalize the insights given, and change course as directed. Faith in that process is Gebo, as is the result.
