The Weekly Rune
For the week of 25 March 2018
Self-care and setting boundaries.
Berkano (Berkana) is the half-month stave through 30 March. Mannaz reversed is the intuitive stave, and Jera indicates Nature’s message to us. Read right to left is Berkana, Mannaz reversed, then Jera.
Receive the ad-free, full weekly runecast by subscribing through Patreon. There, find more detail on how the current runes impact human life force over the next week, and how to best manage the curves and twists therein. With a paid subscription, also receive TWR on Sunday instead of Monday, for as little as $5 a month, or for more engagement with me, such as regular Soul Readings, Sabbat Runecasts, and personal runecasts, choose one of the higher subscription levels.
The half-month rune is set by the runic calendar, and governs for a tad over two weeks (a fortnight). The intuitive stave (meaning, I draw it blind) indicates the life force most available to us, which brings the focus of the half-month rune into sharper focus for the present week. It suggests how we can handle these energies. The planetary stave (also a blind draw) indicates the state and needs of the planet, and where noted, of Nature, well beyond the earthly sphere.
If you’re curious about how I do the cast every week, catch a couple of my Instagram videos, which explain the intention behind The Weekly Rune, and what makes it different from other ways of casting.
This week’s cast requires a bit more external engagement than last week’s. Berkana heralds spring, despite its chilly entry, and it brings a current of self-support and nurture that’s deeply needed. Just past Ostara, we’ve moved into a place that the life force of the season fosters our growth and rejuvenation, though we’re experiencing a bit of hindrance around it. Much of the north is still heavily enshrouded with cold, more so than usual, making it difficult to move ahead with the normal zeal we have for warmer weather. The runecast this week speaks very specifically to that waffling effect.
The repetition of Mannaz reversed from last week is part of this slowed momentum. Any time a rune repeats back-to-back, there’s reason to pause and verify that we’re getting the memo, or that we’re interpreting it properly. It’s a position well-matched to the current Mercury retrograde. As it hints at internalized garble, we will have to step back a good deal this week to make sure that we understand dynamics, that we’re communicating well within them, and that when it still blows up in our faces, we need to give ourselves (and everyone else) a mulligan.
Jera as the voice of Nature facilitates this effort by suggesting that we inventory our ability to do the above. What helps us find emotional detachment from dynamics? What sinks us in deeper? How can we create space in our lives to have better discernment about all of the above?
Ultimately in this instance, Jera is asking us to improve our boundaries. Nature knows when to give and when to retain, when to take up slack. It knows when to begin prep for a new phase and when to hold equilibrium. This week, we must cultivate the same discernment, so that we can know our own boundaries. We can’t honor them until we know them. We can’t know them until we realize we need them.
Take some time this week to update boundaries. Maybe some don’t work anymore, or aren’t needed. Maybe new ones must come in. As help will not ride in at that last minute, get very clear in personal needs and communication. Hone how to articulate needs and boundaries. Allow the sweet spot of realizing the power in speaking personal truth, and how to stand in it.
- How do you identify personal boundaries?
- How do you communicate them?
- How do you put yourself first?
In case you missed it–I was a panelist on the Runes Round Table last week, on Blog Talk Radio. It was a great discussion with several seasoned runesters, who work with different futharks, and brought different uses of the runes to the table. I learned a great deal from it, and I think you will enjoy it, too.
Ask about studying the runes with me.
