Inclusive Runes

The too-often occurring association between the runes, fascism, and white nationalism troubles me. As someone who’s worked with the runes most of my life, I despise this abuse and have let go of teachers and resources that ally with these worldviews and organizations that intentionally harm BIPOC.

The runes are inclusive and always have been. Folx who say otherwise haven’t studied their cultural context.

I don’t support hate or these worldviews in any form. I won’t support those who foster hate and I refuse to give them space in my rune work. As someone who does Ancestor tending, I acknowledge those views as part of runic studies, now. We can’t erase that history or pretend the current misuse isn’t happening, and I teach these facts in my runes classes.

As an animist, I support the personhood of all people as well as their right to study the runes and Nordic spirituality safely. I continue to learn about the runes, history, and how to do better with all of it.

I’m an animist, author, deathwalker and death doula. For the last 25+ years, through Soul Intent Arts I’ve helped others to ethically build thriving spiritual paths as fit, embodied elders, who upon death become wise, capable Ancestors. My work is Nature-based, and focuses soul tending through the Elder Futhark runes, animism, ancestral healing, and deathwork. I’m author of Runic Book of Days, and I host the podcast, What in the Wyrd. I also write The Weekly Rune as a celebration of the Elder Futhark in season. Full bio.
