The horse is a joy to princes in the presence of warriors. A steed in the pride of its hoofs, when rich men on horseback bandy words about it; and it is ever a source of comfort to the restless.

Listen to What in the Wyrd

Traditional lore – Ehwaz is accepted as ‘horse,’ which implies their wildness, domestication as helper to human-persons, the bond between them, as well as their travels and work together.

Animistic lore – Ehwaz as horse also points to Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged steed who carried up up and down Yggdrasil. Sleipnir is also etomylogically associated with Yggdrasil, itself. The important note there is the bond of human-persons and Nature Spirits, together, creating movement between spirit realms. This reinforcement of animism as a core function of formed being indicates the importance of close human-Nature bonds. In Runic Book of Days, of Ehwaz I note, “With Ehwaz we again brush against the tension of ordeal, a process that harkens back to the traditional shamanic death.“

Ehwaz as runes oracle – live in alignment, reciprocity, and responsibility to Unseen.
