These Are The Times
I see you, visionary, courageous catalyst person. Thank you.
Our favorite cultural stories are of the person who lives at the edge of collective acceptance.
We call them underdog. Dark Horse. Cinderella Story. So close to getting it…
They fight for what’s right– some cause or someone that can’t save themself, someone the system has turned against. They operate outside the system, which seeks to suppress them.
Yet we don’t appreciate witnessing such acts when we actually see them in the world. We often can’t even recognize them as the catalysts for change that they are.
As a writer I say this with my ego in check as much as possible: the artist who writes, sings, paints, dances, orchestrates life forces that can’t or won’t be held by the system…
They’re not just producing art that is their heartsong and duty to the planet, they are also carrying heavy burdens for the collective.
It is an incredibly heavy thing to bear into being ways of moving among that resist the systems upon which we must rely to survive. The weight of that burden falls throughout their lives, relationships, and sanity.
We celebrate the stories of the courageous catalyst person, but we need to be honest about our relationship to the system and expectations of each other so that we can actually support the change the visionary presages…
And also support the visionary.
