There’s a big difference between those projections, and not knowing it is romanticization of an experience that is not yours, and bypassing responsibility for one that is. I so often see folks reaching back to the rituals and ceremonies of their Ancestors to recreate them or gnashing their teeth over the inability to, then wondering why they don’t root meaning and growth in the everyday, why they can’t connect meaningfully with the Spirits of Place where they live.

For your rituals and ceremonies to ignite what’s needed in the present, they have to include the needs of your Ancestors that you can hold now, in this time, and your present life, community, Helping Spirits, Spirits of Place, and Nature Spirits. To truly walk with your Ancestors, your feet must be on the ground in the present, literally and spiritually.
